We the Women: Portraits of Empowerment
The project “We the Women” was born during the 2016 American elections. The revival of feminist activism such as the Women’s March was a wakeup call. It was a reminder of the need to continue and further the progress that women before us have achieved. Through this series of portraits, I endeavor to capture female empowerment in different forms, embracing diversity, and celebrating womanhood.
Over 30 women have been photographed to date. These women come from around the world and live or have lived in the USA. They make their ordinary lives extraordinary by being resilient and inspiring others through their strength and their personal experiences. This body of work is a tribute to the brave women that brought us all this far and a reminder that we can overcome every obstacle if we feel empowered and support each other. Empowerment is the fuel for change.
The images are created with a medium format camera. The film is developed manually, and the negatives are scanned to present images at a big size. The portraits are displayed with the unique story of each woman.
